What is a Realm?
Domain + Location = Realm
The Matrix adds another dimension to wireless broadband - location.
People can already access your website on the internet, now they can
see it for free in particular locations. The way this works is by offering
free websites accessible via the login page, that do not require a user
to login and connect to the Internet, as these websites are provided
in specific locations.
In other words a realm is a website accessible in a particular place.
For example, if you go into the Market Square in Cambridge, you will find
yourself in the Cambridge City Council Realm on the Matrix.
While in this location, you can access websites from the Council as
well as other realms on the Matrix without needing to login or sign up to the Internet.
In this location you will be in the City Council realm. Some realms are
more valuable than others due to the amount of footfall that passes through.
Over 1 million people every year pass through the Council's realm
in the City. Realms are now going fast, because once a location is
taken on the Matrix, it comes with the right to renew it, much like
booking a domain name on the web, on the matrix your website is
"hosted" or "served up" at a location.
Not only will you get more hits to your website, but you can tailor
where those hits take place, and you may want to have different
websites show in different locations.
The network can be accessed using any Wi-Fi device. This means
that both visitors to the region and residents will have a service
they can easily access.
